Help keep our roads safe for all users – Don’t just look – See.
Research from 2012-2016 shows a trend of increased cycling casualties on Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire roads over the summer months.
Working
together for safer travel, Road Safety North East Scotland and Getabout
have united to highlight safety concerns to both cyclists and vehicle
drivers.
Over 50% of these local cycling accidents happen at or
near roundabouts and junctions – a time when our senses are flooded with
information. Research shows that in many of the incident poor driver or
rider looking and observation was a primary cause of the accident.
Whilst
it’s our eyes that physically ‘look’, it’s the mind which actually
‘sees’ by observing and paying attention to what is going on around us.
